Located at 40-46 Frederick Street, The Chinese Anglican Mission Church Hall is one of the few (as of June 2017) original 'Chinatown' buildings remaining[1]. It was left in a state of disrepair[2][3][4] for many years, however on 21 August 2020 it was announced that it will be developed into a café or community space.[5][6]

Built in 1905 (Architect: Frederick de Jersey Clere), the Wellington Chinese Anglican Mission occupied this building for over fifty years, before moving in 1956.[2][4][7]

Much of the original façade remains, and although this building is not in a heritage area, it is considered to be a building of cultural significance to the Chinese Community[2][3][4][8], and in May 2023 it was recognised as Category 2 on the New Zealand Heritage List Rārangi Kōrero by Heritage New Zealand.
