LARGE QUANTITY OF LIQUOR SEIZED

WELLINGTON, November 16. (1900)

The police paid another surprise visit to the Chinese quarter of Haining Street to-day, and seized a large quantity of liquor.

The occupant of one of the houses will be charged with selling drink without a license.

The seizure caused great commotion amongst the Chinese.

SEVEN CHINESE ARRESTED

WELLINGTON, November 16. (1900)

The raids made by the police on the Chinese lately have caused great commotion amongst the local Celestial, and they have made markedly hostile demonstrations against their countrymen who gave evidence for the police.

Seven Chinese were to-night arrested for threatening to murder police witnesses.
